Pr. American Hepplewhite side chairs ca. 1790

These chairs came to us via a local auction. They show indications of being from the north shore of Massachusettes. The quality of the carving and the motifs suggest Salem Ma. . Probably carved in the shop of McIntre or a contemporary and made by another craftsman as was the practice at the time. Both chairs have been ended out (restored to their original height. See Grogan and Co. sale of Feb. 2007 for a very similar single example. Offered at $2,850.00 the pair.
